The London Box

As a toy company, we weren’t sure what we could do to help in the face of a worldwide pandemic. But along the way, we’ve learned quite a lot about working with plastics. So, when Leslie Easley, a local doctor, reached out and asked if we could make a prototype plastic box to shield healthcare workers during intubation, we made one the very next day.

After research, and a needs assessment, our design is made of polycarbonate, NOT acrylic. It is bent along two edges for strength, durability, and ease of cleaning. The bent edges make the box sturdy so that monitors and tools can be placed on top. We chose polycarbonate, not Acrylic, because it stands up to constant use and doesn’t fog when cleaned by the three most common disinfectants found in hospitals: bleach, alcohol, and chlorhexidine.

We also know that every team in every department, in every hospital is different. Different instruments, different space, different needs. This is why we build every box to the specifications of the requesting hospital and send a prototype to make sure that the box fits the team.

We’re calling it the London Box, after Dr. Easley’s son London, because we’re doing this to keep his mom and other healthcare professionals safe.
